Reserve Market for Themo Control Clients
Save electricity
and earn money
with
Themo Flexibility

Themos are the most efficient way on the market to reduce your electricity consumption in a smart way. But it doesn't stop there - it lets you earn money by supporting grid balance with Themo Flexibility.
It's a win-win situation: the grid benefits from the added stability,
balancing is affordable and 100% green,
and you will earn income just by joining the balancing reserve.

Assess your potential savings by requesting an energy savings calculation!
We will carry out the calculation free of charge based on the information you provide and Themo's extensive property company data. Requesting a free calculation does not obligate you in any way.
Our data shows that, for example, a housing company comprising 56 apartments with 90 thermostats controlling underfloor heating could reduce the electricity consumption of the entire property by 15–22 %.
Savings Will Always Exceed the Expenses
Themo Energy Saving Service is cash-flow positive: it requires no investment from property or housing companies. The fixed monthly price covers the installation of Themo Smart Thermostats, maintenance, monitoring, and access to a customer portal that can be used to monitor and control the heating remotely.
In our customer agreements, we undertake to ensure that the savings achieved by our customers exceed the cost of using the system. Where necessary, these savings can be verified through a free pilot period.
Earning locic
The basic principle of earning money through Themo Flexibility is simple: You will be paid for being in TSO’s reserve – remuneration is not based on activations or consumed electricity. Themo aggregates thousands of electric heaters into a single large power consumer that then participates on the Reserve Market. A client will earn their proportion of the income based on the Themo Flexibility agreement.
Effects on basic functions
Themo Flexibility is designed to be a perfect match for Themo Control clients, and participating the market doesn’t affect the basic features of the smart electric heating at our customers’ premises. However, as the daily market participation of the flexibility market is always decided day-ahead through
blind bidding, we must lock the heating schedules to be able to
carry out the activations upon grid’s needs.
Limits of participation
Flexibility market organizes itself through a marketplace, where only qualified reserve providers can join the blind bidding. Themo passed the Finnish TSO Fingrid's prequalification test in January 2024, and has participated actively in the Finnish reserve market operations since February 2025.
Currently Themo offers the possibility to join the reserve market with the electric heaters which are under Themo Control agreement.
How to join
Joining is simple: If you are a Themo Control client, contact your dedicated Themo Salesperson to find out how your devices can be included in the reserve market operations. We add megawatts one by one to the market,
and we aim to add several new megawatts every year.

How does Themo work in Reserve Market?
If you join with Themo Flexibility service, your Themo is pooled together with thousands of other Themos that are participating in the market.
Themo Flexibility service will follow the frequency in the grid. Should the frequency deviate from 50,0Hz,
Themo Flexibility activate heaters in its service. We turn the heaters ON or OFF within seconds to balance the grid.
Average activation lasts for 20 seconds and does not heat up or cool down your floors.
Everything happens automatically in the background without any inconvenience to you.
Grid – it’s all about balance
We often come across news about electricity, the grid, and reserve market. But how many of us really understand the basics? We sat down with our CEO, Madis Uuemaa, to help explain why electricity grids work the way they do, the critical role they play, and the complex challenges hidden underneath the surface.
We are proud of our customers who recognize their responsibility
